more snow!

Outside of Everett's class there was a little doo dad that hung on a hook.  One of those wooden art pieces with a snowman that has a sign that says "Let it Snow".  I told Everett's teacher that perhaps she should take it down.....she laughed and did.  Once again we will be shoveling up a storm tomorrow...almost certain.

words from woody

Woody is so right.  Got to fail to grow...just have to if one wants to change and discover. I wish I could send this to someone I used to know....

the full plate's soup swap idea

I was invited to do a soup swap...so great!  I made 6 quarts of Hamburger Soup (recipe to follow) and I now have 6 assorted soups in my freezer!  Eila of The Full Plate blog hosted.  Eila's directions went like this:
  •  Invite 10 people over;
  • Each person is to bring six quarts of freezer-friendly homemade soup, packed in six one-quart containers;
  •  Place everyone’s 6 soup containers on the dining room table;
  • Once everyone’s there, each person can give a quick description of their soup;
  •  Draw numbers to determine the order of soup selection;
  • Then, one at a time, have each guest choose one quart of soup;
  • When you've gone through one round, draw numbers again (so nobody gets last choice each time); keep going for five more rounds, until all the soups are selected;
  • Send each person home with six delicious quarts of soup which they store in their freezer and enjoy in the coming month or two.

I would love to host another....once my 6 quarts is gobbled up and my freezer has more room!  Soon....

furious vulvas

One of my most favorite restaurants in Fairfield County is Bloodroot.  It is a very special place unlike any other in this part of the world. The organic, vegetarian, seasonal and delicious soups, salads, main courses, breads and desserts are all so yummy.  I went with my dear friend Jessica yesterday for a bowl of chickpea, potato and tomato soup and an open-faced avocado sandwich with sundried tomatoes, garlic and olive oil on toasted rye bread.  Perfect.  On my way out I noticed these chocolates made by a former employee of the restaurant...the name made me look again.  Furious Vulvas...12 bittersweet chocolate vulvas with hawaiian pink sea salt and pink peppercorns made for Noel, one of the owners of Bloodroot..oh did I mention it is a feminist restaurant.  Bought a box and boy (or should I say girl) are they special.  Hot with a bit of spice and perfectly salty.....just in time for Valentine's Day.
Check them out here.

iggy peck architect

Everett was given the book Iggy Peck Architect by Andrea Beaty.  What a fantastic book for children and adults.   The illustrations are beyond great.  Iggy is a boy that is crazy about building...his teacher squashes his passion for creating until she needs his imagination to get out of a predicament.  A lesson for us adults to PLEASE support childrens' ideas even when we think they are absurd!   Find Iggy here.
